Swap Festival: the first big reuse picnic comes to Lachine

A blanket on the grass, two items to trade, neighbours becoming friends: on August 30, 2026, René-Lévesque Park hosts the very first Swap Festival — a free, family-friendly event where reuse becomes a celebration.

🎪 A festival like no other

No tickets, no commercial booths, no money: the Swap Festival is a 100% free neighbourhood gathering where we swap and give away the items we were about to throw out. The idea fits in one sentence: everyone brings at least 2 working items, lays a blanket on the grass like a picnic, and trades freely with their neighbours.

Clothing, electronics, books, kids' items, furniture, kitchenware, non-perishable food, pet supplies, sports and leisure… the space is organized into 10 category zones so it's easy to find your way around.

📍 When and where?

Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at René-Lévesque Park in Lachine — a beautiful peninsula along the canal, at 398 Chemin du Canal, Lachine (Montréal), QC H8S 4G2. Open admission, no registration, family-friendly: music and neighbourhood vibes all day, with no alcohol or cannabis sales.

🚚 The secret ingredient: nothing goes to waste

Here's the big difference with a garage sale: at the end of the festival, no item goes back to the trash. During the last 2 hours, everything switches to giving mode. And for items that still haven't found a taker, the Jetroque recovery truck is on site: donated items are given free of charge to accredited nonprofits. Never resold, never landfilled. A free delivery service is also available on site for bulky items.

🤝 A neighbourhood co-organized event

The Swap Festival is led by Jetroque, the reuse logistics company, with committed local partners: Éco-quartier Lachine, the Borough of Lachine (Ville de Montréal) and GRAME. Jetroque handles promotion, coordination and logistics — the neighbourhood brings its energy and volunteers.

🌱 Why a reuse festival?

Because more than 30% of what ends up in landfills still works perfectly. An item that changes hands is an item that isn't bought new, isn't shipped, isn't buried — and it's a bond created between two neighbours. The festival brings to a park what the Jetroque app does all year long: swap or give in 10 seconds, with guaranteed home pickup for unclaimed items.

✅ How to take part

It's simple: pick out 2 items in good condition, bring a blanket, and come on August 30. All the details — directions, categories, FAQ — are on the official Swap Festival page.

Would your neighbourhood like to host its own Swap Festival? Cities, boroughs, éco-quartiers and organizations can become co-organizing partners: write to us at info@jetroque.com.
