Our environmental impact

Updated June 12, 2026

Every item swapped or given away is measured and tracked. Here are Jetroque's cumulative indicators since 2024, the methodology behind them, and our transparency commitments.

Reuse by the numbers

Jetroque acts as a measurable lever against waste. Every user who lists an item, every confirmed match, every donation handed to a neighbour or picked up at 60 days produces aggregated impact data. We are committed to keeping this data transparent, methodologically sound, and verifiable — not a vague marketing claim.

⚠️ Transparency note — early stage: Jetroque is still in its early stage. The counters displayed above will be fed by real cumulative data once the first monthly thresholds are reached. In the meantime, the methodologies, nonprofit partnerships, and commitments are already in place and auditable below.

Methodology

Three main indicators are calculated for each confirmed transaction on the platform: number of items, mass diverted (kg), equivalent CO₂ avoided (kg). The coefficients come from recognized reference databases.

1. Number of items reused

Any item that has been the subject of a confirmed transaction (completed swap or donation, or 60-day pickup validated) counts as 1. No double-counting: an item re-swapped later counts as a distinct item, but the history remains tracked.

2. Mass diverted (kg)

For each item category, Jetroque applies an average weight drawn from the ADEME (France, Bilan GES database) and Recyc-Québec databases. A few examples:

CategoryAverage weight usedSource
2–3-seat sofa45 kgADEME, ÉcoMobilier
Standard fridge65 kgADEME, ÉEQ
Washing machine70 kgADEME, ÉEQ
Dining table25 kgADEME, ÉcoMobilier
Adult clothing (average)0.4 kgADEME, Refashion
Book0.3 kgADEME
Small appliance (coffee maker, toaster…)2.5 kgADEME

Weights are averages. When a user enters a weight or dimensions, that data takes priority.

3. Equivalent CO₂ avoided (kg)

For each reused item, the avoided carbon footprint corresponds to the difference between manufacturing an equivalent new item and extending the item's useful life (including transport, end-of-life, and replacement rate). Average coefficients used:

Categorykg CO₂e / item avoidedAssumption
2–3-seat sofa~ 70 kg CO₂eFull life cycle vs new production
Standard fridge~ 320 kg CO₂eNew production avoided + 3 years extended use
Washing machine~ 280 kg CO₂eNew production avoided + 4 years extended use
Cotton garment (t-shirt)~ 7 kg CO₂e2,700 L of water + production avoided
Cotton garment (jeans)~ 25 kg CO₂e7,500 L of water + production avoided
Book~ 1.2 kg CO₂ePaper production + printing avoided

CO₂ coefficients are industry averages. They are updated annually in line with changes to ADEME databases and scientific publications (LCA — Life Cycle Assessments).

Frequently asked questions — Impact

How does Jetroque measure its environmental impact?

For each confirmed transaction, three indicators: number of items, mass diverted (kg) based on average weights from ADEME/Recyc-Québec, and equivalent CO₂ avoided (difference between new production and extended use). Public, auditable methodology.

Are the figures displayed verified?

Yes. The figures are calculated automatically from confirmed transactions in the app. The unit coefficients (weight, CO₂) come from recognized databases (ADEME, Recyc-Québec, Eurostat) and are reviewed annually.

Where do items collected under the 60-day guarantee go?

In Quebec, they are systematically transferred, at no financial cost, to a recognized nonprofit partner (reuse centres, ressourceries, community organizations, schools). Jetroque never resells collected items.

Can I view the detailed impact report?

This page is the public summary report. A detailed annual report is produced for Partner Cities and Jetroque Pro subscribers. Jetroque+ users receive their own personal impact dashboard in the app.

What about users outside Quebec?

Users in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Morocco, etc. benefit from the same impact indicators in the app for their own transactions. The rollout of the 60-day pickup and nonprofit partnerships outside Quebec is gradual and announced country by country.
